As a medical category, dysmorphia defines an excessive preoccupation with the whole body or a single part; the constant need to modify one’s body that does not (yet) coincide with one’s identity. In this essay I explore the way filmmaker Sandra Lahire reflects on dysmorphia in her experimental films where the gaze becomes hap- tic, “contaminating” and transforming the viewers’ perception. Lahire’s anorexic body performs the vulnerability of humans’ bodies exposed to radioactivity and pollution.
