Abstract

The article analyses the various types of villainous characters in the film industry, starting with classic cinema and ending with more contemporary examples (from Quinlan to Corleone, from Alex in Clockwork Orange to Crudelia Demon, and many others). According to the authors, the clear separation of good and bad characters is not a useful key for many films of the last decades. This is why the categories of antihero and rough hero were conceived. To these categories, the authors believe it is necessary to add a third: the crypto hero.
